Chinese New Year February, 2011
Three years ago Michelle Tresemer came to us with an awesome graphics portfolio. Southern Oregon Chinese Cultural Association (SOCCA) is the host for the traditional Chinese New Year celebration in Jacksonville Oregon. It is a major annual event with parade, shows and presentations in over a dozen of venue throughout the community. When Michelle offered to help, she took over the responsibility of designing our layouts for the events’ posters, tickets, flyers and programs.
Within weeks we realized that she wasn’t only just producing our graphics, we found her to be respectful of the Chinese history and culture, and also sensitive to the role and perspective that SOCCA played in the community. She became such an integral person within our partnership that she was nominated and was added to SOCCA’s Board as Director of Publicity. We enjoyed her contribution blissfully for a couple of years until she left us for a job in Washington last year.
We were quite concerned as we began planning for the Year of the Rabbit (2011) celebration and was much relieved when she volunteered again. She communicated with us continually and provided our designs and re-designs from time-after-time of repeated edits and changes. From 450 miles away she designed and placed orders on our behalf for buttons, t-shirts and coffee mugs along with all our usual posters, tickets and programs. In addition to all her usual beautiful art, this year she did the layout of the best two full-page center-fold in the Jacksonville Review (a local gazette) that their editor had ever seen.
It is our privilege and pleasure to provide Michelle Tresemer with this personal reference. Michelle has been patient, selfless and unflaggingly loyal and we are sure that she will be a benefit to whomever and wherever she chooses to serve. We are unable to adequately acknowledge her contribution by mere words alone.
